“Spanish Golfer Jon Rahm Secures Maiden Masters Title with Thrilling Victory

The 26-year-old Spanish golfer Jon Rahm won the Masters for the first time at Augusta National. Rahm’s incredible 66-foot putt on the 18th green was the decisive shot that gave him the tournament championship by one stroke.

All weekend long, Rahm was in contention for the title, and he entered the final round behind the leaders by a mere two shots. On the back nine, he shot four birdies and an eagle to propel himself to the top of the leaderboard. But it was his miraculous putt at the last that put him in the Masters record books forever.

Rahm called it “one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever had in my life” in his post-tournament news conference. He went on to say that his wife and newborn son were the driving force behind his victory. No matter what happens, he told himself, “I’m going to keep fighting.” And I did, and now I am.

Given Rahm’s rough 2020, this victory has more significance. Aside from losing in a heartbreaking playoff at the BMW Championship, he also got COVID-19 during a tournament and had to quit while leading. However, he ignored the criticism and kept practicing, which led to his first big championship win.

The Masters victory is also a major turning point in Rahm’s career, catapulting him into the sport’s elite tier. He has risen to third place all-around, just behind Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas.

Fans and professional golfers alike congratulated Rahm on his win, with many flocking to social media to do so. Tiger Woods’s “Congratulations to Jon Rahm on winning the Masters Tournament” was one of the most widely shared tweets. Outstanding performance that will be talked about for decades.
