At the outset, Lando Norris was in the lead. After that, he engaged Max Verstappen head-on. In the end, though, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit on Sunday—which had some early drama—ended as predictably as it could have: with Verstappen retaking the lead and extending his Red Bull’s advantage well beyond the rest of the field.
With another strong performance, Verstappen won the British Grand Prix for the first time and extended his winning streak to six races in a row and eight for the year. Red Bull’s faultless season continued with their tenth consecutive race victory, matching McLaren’s Formula One record of eleven consecutive victories established in 1988.
Norris, driving a McLaren, beat Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes to finish second, but he considered himself the day’s greatest victor.
Norris’s third-place finish was McLaren’s first of the season and well-deserved as he held off seven-time world champion Hamilton in the closing circuits.
As the laps ticked away, Hamilton did everything he could think of to pass the 23-year-old Norris, including inside feints, wide corners, and close-quarters manuevering. Norris’s amazing defensive push was immune to Hamilton’s knowledge and expertise. Since 1999, when two British drivers finished 1-2, this was the first race this has happened at Silverstone. Oscar Piastri of Australia finished in fourth position in the second McLaren vehicle.
Sonny Hayes, a made-up driver, was the focus of everyone’s attention at Silverstone for the whole week.
That’s the name of Brad Pitt’s character in an upcoming Formula 1 movie; the cast and crew were out at the track all last week filming sequences and interviewing experts in preparation for their roles.
The teams seemed excited to begin working on the project. Mercedes assisted in the design of Pitt’s fictitious Apex Racing crew’s vehicles, Red Bull’s Christian Horner met with the producers on Friday, and Lewis Hamilton is a member of the film’s production crew.
Pitt and his co-star, Damson Idris, were seen at various locations around the grid all week, and many opportunities were found in the race schedule to shoot on the circuit itself.
