Real-time updates from the Boston Marathon, which has returned after a year off

This year’s Boston Marathon will be quite different from the event that spectators have been used to seeing.

In order to avoid congestion, race organizers reduced the field size from the normal 30,000 runners to around 20,000 runners, which made qualifying for the race very tough. In addition to requiring all competitors who are not running for a charity to achieve a specified, age-adjusted time, Boston is the only major marathon that does so.

The world’s largest marathons were among the first victims of the coronavirus pandemic, and they were among the last remnants of pre-pandemic life to reappear after the epidemic.

They have, however, been reinstated in effect during the past 15 days. Berlin was in late September, London was last weekend, and Chicago will be on Sunday, all in the same month. Running through the streets, hundreds of people cheered them on, marking the beginning of a period of relative normality.

After being postponed for 18 months due to the pandemic, the Boston Marathon comes returning this year to commemorate its 125th anniversary, which will be held on April 15th.

The race will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network and Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Eastern time on Monday, according to the network. The races will also be streamed live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports mobile app, among other places.
