The man suspected of murdering Daytona Beach police officer Jason Raynor is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Officer Jason Raynor of the Daytona Beach Police Department was shot and killed by Othal Wallace. Wallace has been charged for first-degree murder by a grand jury and, if found guilty, may face the death sentence.

After Raynor died as a result of his injuries, Seventh Circuit State Attorney R.J. Larizza said that he intended to prosecute Wallace with first-degree murder. However, according to the Orlando Sentinel, Florida law requires a grand jury to issue the indictment before it can be filed.

Police have revealed body camera video that shows Raynor attempting to approach Wallace, who was seated in his car at the time of the incident. As Raynor directs Wallace to sit down in the car and inquires as to whether or not he lives on the property, Wallace moves closer to him, saying, “What’s going on?”

Wallace left the region, prompting a huge search to track him down. According to FOX 35 Orlando, he was finally apprehended in a treehouse outside Atlanta and detained several days later.
