The Biden administration said Thursday that it was looking forward to working with the Shehbaz Sharif government and that it was denying charges made by former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his allies that the United States was involved in regime change in the country.
Ned Price, State Department spokesperson, told reporters at his daily press conference that the United States had congratulated Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his election by the country’s parliament and that the administration looked forward to working with him and his cabinet.
It has been about seventy-five years since Price proclaimed the connection between the United States and Pakistan has been critical.
We look forward to continue our collaboration with Pakistan’s administrations in order to achieve peace and development in Pakistan and the greater region,” he said.
Protests against the United States had been organised in Washington the day before by Imran Khan’s followers. Meanwhile, they continued to accuse the United States of having a part in the regime transition while attacking a Pakistani-American journalist and a few members of the local population.
“On this issue, our message has been clear and consistent.” There is absolutely no truth to any of the claims that have been levelled against me. It is our position that constitutional and democratic norms, including respect for human rights, should be upheld in a peaceful manner. “We do not endorse any one political party over another, whether in Pakistan or anyplace else in the globe,” Price said.
Price said that the United States agrees with the judgement of Pakistan’s military spokesman, who stated that there is no evidence to imply that the Biden administration threatened or was part in a scheme to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan’s administration.
