A man has been charged with attempted murder after the shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, according to a report

The individual who is believed to have pulled the trigger on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was detained for attempted murder on Friday when he was making a stump speech, according to reports from the local media.

According to national broadcaster NHK, which cited sources inside the police department, the individual, the name of whom has not been revealed at this time, was detained and a firearm was taken into custody. When the AFP tried to get a statement from the local police, they were unable to do so promptly.
