A Story About Two Stevens and a Stephen

Both Steven Nicholas Romo and Stephen Robert Morgan have a number of characteristics. Both of their initial names are the same. They are both members of the press. Both of them were reared in religious households that discouraged homosexuality and its associated behaviours. Both of them had the same concern, which was that the fact that they were homosexual would make it impossible for them to live happily ever after.

One of those parallels served as the impetus for their first encounter. They were sent by the competing television stations in Houston for which they worked to cover a primary watch party for Kathaleen Wall on March 6, 2018. Kathaleen Wall was a Republican who had unsuccessfully run for a seat in Texas’s second congressional district. The watch party was held on March 6. They spoke pleasantly to one another.

But eventually, those connections were severed. Mr. Romo said that he “noticed Stephen’s direct messages appeared to become a lot more flirty.” According to Mr. Morgan, they are “direct and purposeful,” and he adds, “Steven was a closed book.” I needed to go at least a little bit farther into that book.

Mr. Romo didn’t have to wait long before he was able to say, “Stephen would no longer take double-tapping for an answer.” He was alluding to the fact that Stephen liked Mr. Morgan’s photographs on Instagram. Therefore, Mr. Romo extended an invitation to Mr. Morgan to accompany him for coffee on November 1, 2020.

They discussed their shared religious upbringings and Mr. Romo’s difficult childhood in Dallas, which was defined by filth, poverty, and neglect for a longer period of time than either of them had anticipated.

Following their discussion, Mr. Romo was left with the impression that “there was something extraordinary there.” That was exactly what he wanted to convey to his sister, so he contacted her. He had no idea that Mr. Morgan had engaged in the very same behaviour with his sister as he had done with him.

The next week, for their second date, they decided to go to Chili’s, a restaurant they had been to many times in the past. Each of them used to go there with other members of the youth group after the sessions. Mr. Romo said that the trip was more of a joke than anything else. After that first date, they had their first passionate kiss.

Mr. Romo is now working in New York City as a journalist for NBC News. When his mother passed away, he dropped out of Texas A&M University in College Station, which is located in the state of Texas.

Mr. Morgan is a meteorologist with Fox Weather, which has its headquarters in New York City. He was born and raised in St. Louis. He attended Saint Louis University and received his bachelor’s degree in meteorology there.

A few weeks after they started dating, Mr. Morgan was approached with employment opportunities out of state, and Mr. Romo was given the opportunity to advance in his career. But, as Mr. Romo said, “we both felt that we’d waited long enough to meet one other and that long distance was not for us.”

After Mr. Morgan was offered the job at Fox Weather in June 2021, Mr. Romo decided to resign from his position, and the two of them headed to Manhattan to look for a place to live. The trip to New York City was Mr. Romo’s first time in the city.

They had been out wandering when they decided to stop near Mr. Morgan’s prospective place of employment on Sixth Avenue. Mr. Romo gave Mr. Morgan some writing that he had done on the trip he had taken through his life. His desire to propose was stated at the conclusion of the play.

On October 8th, the pair exchanged their vows in front of 125 guests at the Filter Building on White Rock Lake in Dallas. The outdoor wedding was presided over by Mr. Morgan’s boyhood buddy Brandon Adair, who also happens to be an ordained minister via American Marriage Ministries.

The couple decided who would go first by having a game of Rock Paper Scissors to choose who would say their own vows that they had prepared. The victor is Mr. Romo.

In reference to the wedding, Mr. Morgan shared his thoughts by saying, “We have all been on this path, but my family has truly turned the corner.” My dad, Robert Morgan, offered up some prayers for the three of us.
