Moscow closes its streets as Russia experiences a record number of viral infections and fatalities

In the wake of a spike in coronavirus cases and fatalities, Russia has recorded record numbers of daily cases and deaths as the capital shuts down non-essential services for 11 days to tackle the outbreak.

In the previous 24 hours, the nation has recorded 1,159 new fatalities, an all-time high. This comes amid a rise in new cases that has forced officials to reimpose partial lockdown restrictions in several areas.

In addition, the state Covid-19 task force recorded 40,096 new infections, compared to 36,582 the previous day, according to the report.

Authorities in Moscow have refrained from imposing the kinds of extreme lockdowns that have been enforced in many other nations, but they have shut down all non-essential services from Thursday until November 7.

Retail establishments, restaurants, athletic and entertainment facilities, as well as schools and kindergartens, have all been shuttered due to the storm. Food, medication, and other necessary stores are the only ones that are permitted to stay open.
