In Palermo, Irina-Camelia Begu won her fifth career championship

Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania won her fifth career championship on Sunday by defeating Lucia Bronzetti of Italy in the final of the Palermo clay-court tournament. Begu prevailed in straight sets in the match.

Begu, who has the 45th spot in the global rankings, cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over her opponent, who had the 78th spot and was competing for her first WTA championship.

Before this past Sunday, Begu, who is now 31 years old, had not contributed to her collection of trophies since she won her fourth championship on her home turf in Bucharest in 2017.
