The winning bid for the Ronaldo-Messi prestige seat surpassed $2.6 million

A Saudi Arabian billionaire is now in the lead in the auction to see the newest chapter in the legendary rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the world of soccer. His price of 10 million riyals ($2.66 million) for a ticket to a showcase game is the most so far.

On Twitter, the Saudi government’s entertainment arm said that Mushref Al-Ghamdi, the general manager of real estate firm AqarOne, was currently in the lead in an auction that would come to a close on January 17.

The “Beyond Imagination” ticket is for a match between a combined team from Saudi teams Al Nassr – who just recruited Ronaldo – and Al Hilal playing against Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain. Ronaldo will be playing for Al Nassr.

After Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Barcelona in December 2020, the two teams won’t see one other on the field again until the encounter on January 19 in Riyadh.

The purchaser of the ticket will have the opportunity to visit dressing rooms, attend the winner’s celebration after the match, and meet the two competitors who have spent years competing to be considered the best in the world.

Despite the fact that the proceeds from the auction are going to be donated to charity, the event might give rise to allegations of “sportswashing,” which is the practise of diverting attention away from violations of rights by spending money on sports.

In addition to Ronaldo, Messi has also been recruited by Saudi Arabia to serve as a tourist ambassador for the country. The Qatari government, which has recently finished hosting the World Cup, owns the French club Paris Saint-Germain.
